Eligibility Requirements

2017 Excellence in Development—Large Scale Award Recipient

Excellence in Development Award
Development projects and programs of any type located in Central Ohio’s Seven-County Region and meeting the eligibility requirements below may be submitted:
- If it is a private sector project, it must be in stabilized operation and be financially viable.
- The project must be 85-100% complete; however, this does not require that the project be newly constructed.
- The project must achieve a high standard of excellence in all areas—design, planning, construction, economics, and management.
- The project must demonstrate relevance to the contemporary and future needs of the community in which it is located.
- The project must provide lessons, strategies, and techniques that can be used or adapted in other projects or communities.
- Programs and processes—such as growth management strategies and publicly guided development programs—are eligible if they have been fully implemented.
- The awards applications are open to all—not just ULI members.
Project Size Category
One project will be awarded in each of the following project size categories;
- Small Scale – total project costs of less than $15 million
- Large Scale – total project costs of $15 million or more

Community Impact Award
Public, private, or public/private project, building, program, or initiative that has had a measurable positive impact on a community located in Central Ohio’s Seven-County Region and meeting the eligibility requirements below may be submitted:
- The project must have been open or been of benefit to the public for at least one year.
- The project must be complete; however, this does not require that the project be newly constructed.
- The project must achieve a high standard of excellence in all areas—design, planning, construction, economics, and management.
- The project or program must demonstrate relevance to the contemporary and future needs of the community or neighborhood in which it is located.
- The project or program must provide lessons, strategies, and techniques that can be used or adapted in other communities.
- The awards applications are open to all—not just ULI members.
Completing the Application
The application form can be saved as a work-in-progress before the submission is completed. To understand the scope of requirements, you may consult a blank version of the application here, and find detailed application support instructions here.
Applications will be accepted ONLY through the link above. Any applications sent via other means will not be accepted. In order to be considered, applications must be complete and the application fee paid at the time of submittal. Fees
An entry fee must accompany each project application submitted. After completing the online application, applicants will be directed to ULI Columbus’s secure payment website. Fees for the 2019 ULI Columbus Awards for Excellence are as follows:
- Public Sector | $125
- Private Sector | $250
Note: These fees apply to the type of company or organization submitting the application, not the type of project completed. The application provides a secure link to complete the transaction.
Authorization
Don’t forget to fill out the Authorization Form and upload the form completed by the appropriate project representative. The authorization agreement guarantees the legitimacy of the submission and enables the submission to be approved for evaluation and potential dissemination on ULI channels.
The Jury
Members of the ULI Columbus Awards for Excellence jury are selected to represent several facets of development expertise, including finance, architecture, land planning and development, public affairs, design, and professional services. Jury members are real estate professionals whose careers exist outside the Columbus Region.
Jurors operate independently, applying the highest standards of evaluation and professional practice as reflected in the code of ethics of the Urban Land Institute.
Submission Deadline
The final deadline for all submissions is August 15, 2019. This is a final deadline and will not be extended. Plan to allow time accordingly for preparing and uploading your submission materials.
