COLUMBUS (July 1, 2015) – Terry Foegler, Director of Strategic Initiatives City for the city of Dublin, Ohio, has been named Chairman of the Columbus District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI Columbus). He will serve a two-year term and succeed Joseph Reidy, Attorney, Frost Brown Todd, as chairman of ULI Columbus on July 1, 2015. ULI Columbus is a seven-year old District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), a non-profit research and education institute with more than 35,000 multidisciplinary members dedicated to leadership in real estate and land use and creating thriving communities worldwide.
Foegler, a longtime ULI Columbus member, Governance Committee member and Chair for Mission Advancement, was instrumental in forming a collaborative partnership with Columbus 2020, and the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) to complete a regional growth scenario analysis, called insight2050. “Engaging the region’s planning authority and economic development organization, in partnership with real estate community represented by ULI Columbus, has substantially reinforced awareness of the connection between economic development and land use that is critically important to Central Ohio’s future success. It has also fostered discussions about increased development densities and mixed-use development opportunities at a level and breadth not previously experienced within our region,” Foegler said.
Foegler has a strong record of volunteerism with ULI on a local and national level. In addition to his service as a member of the ULI Columbus Governance Committee, he just completed his term as the Chair for Mission Advancement. He remains actively involved with insight2050 and serves on the initiative’s Executive Committee. On a national level, he has served on three ULI Advisory Service Panels that provided focus expertise on future land use and planning for Pittsburgh’s Park Point University, Great Streets: Washington, DC, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was also a contributor to the Shifting Suburbs: Reinventing Infrastructure for Compact Development, a ULI case study that examined the Bridge Street District in Dublin, Ohio.
Foegler has over 35 years of experience in leading a broad range of planning, development, and urban revitalization initiatives. Currently, he leads the Bridge Street District initiative in the City of Dublin, Ohio; a ground-breaking effort to redevelop more than 1000 acres located in the core of this extremely successful suburban community, and develop it into a dynamic, densely developed and walkable mixed-use environment. Foegler is also working with other Central Ohio communities engaged in similar efforts
Foegler career accomplishments include leading the acclaimed “Campus Partners” neighborhood revitalization efforts in the urban neighborhoods surrounding The Ohio State University; serving as the Vice President of Physical Planning and Real Estate for The Ohio State University; leading SciTech, a corporation established by The Ohio State University to develop its Campus research park; and serving as the City Manager for Dublin, Ohio. Terry also recently chaired MORPC’s Sustainable Growth Working Committee.
As ULI Columbus Chairman, Foegler will strengthen ULI Columbus’s capacity for knowledge sharing, celebrate best practices, counsel, and expand the member network. Foegler’s areas of current interest include:
- Exploring the likely impacts of the country’s rapidly changing demographics and household characteristics upon the form and character of development and urban growth;
- Helping communities better plan, prepare for and guide these new development dynamics to help create more desirable, sustainable and competitive places to live, work and thrive.
