screen-shot-2017-07-10-at-1-47-46-pmBe one of the firsts to learn what the future holds for Columbus’s Discovery District and experience how two revivals will sustain the energy of this opportunity-filled neighborhood.

On Friday, August 18th, join ULI Columbus for a presentation of the Discovery District plan and a tour of two of it’s new venues: The View on Grant and Long and Sixth.

As part of the district’s placemaking plan, these two adaptive reuse, mixed-use commercial and multi-family projects will open in the fall/winter of 2017. They represent two different scales of development while embracing the historic infrastructure and contributing to the future of the Discovery District.

We will begin with a presentation from MKSK, the planning consultants who, in partnership with the dedicated staff and citizen-volunteer Steering Committee, is developing the Discovery District SID (Special Improvement District) Placemaking Plan – a plan that will reinforce the district’s identity as a neighnorhood of arts, culture, and knowledge by guiding public improvements over the next ten years with specific action steps.

Following this presentation, we will hear from the The View on Grant developer team, Mike Balakrishnan (Celmkark Development, LTD.) and Jerry Solove (Solove Real Estate LLC), who formed JSDI Celmark to develop The View brand in Columbus and Austin. As developer-owners in two vibrant cities, their diverse backgrounds and unique experiences bring a fresh perspective and unyielding energy to a building and a district poised to pivot.

16001_longsixth_cd_central_sarah2-copyThe tour of The View on Grant will include a walkthrough of the state-of-the-art semi-automated parking system, combined coffee shop and amenity lounge, a selection of unit types highlighting fully exposed infrastructure, 12’ ceilings and concrete columns in the original building, large windows, and an incredible view of the Discovery District and Columbus skyline.

After completing the first tour, we will continue a few blocks south to Long Street, where local developer Don DeVere is bringing new life to two historic buildings once built to house an innovative automobile manufacturing company (Oscar Lear Motor Company) and the adjoined Columbus Buick Company ‘Salesroom’. Built as a series of connected additions, these three-story buildings represent with architectural details a timeline of local business growth. Each of the 26 units will highlight the original structure, from masonry and heavy timber, to steel and concrete. Improvements to the ground floor will include a commercial space, conditioned interior private parking garage, and a unique resident entry experience.
